While the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence began from its early days with the birth of the San Francisco Order in 1979, shortly thereafter many other Houses and Missions have sought to bring the mission of the Sisters — promulgating universal joy, expiating stigmatic guilt and serving the community — to their communities and has spread throughout the world to become an International Order of Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence. Houses can be found across the United States and in several countries around the world.
The San Francisco House is affectionately referred to as the "Mother House." However every Order, Mission and House of the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence adopt their own look, personality, habits and rules. Each House operates independently serving their local communities while maintaining the Sister mission of promulgating universal joy, expiating guilt and making everyone happy in the meantime. Well...ALMOST EVERYONE..which brings us GREATER JOY!
